Headed west to the Canadian Coastal Mountains

The morning started out at 39 degrees and I got out of camp at first light. It was going to be a long day of driving but I didn't know just how long. I intended to stop at the Canadian Glacier National Park but when I got there I found that the campground had the trans-Canada highway on one side and the railroad on the other so after a short deliberation I continued west.

Old mining mountain with visible evidence of the old silver mines.

This one looked like a statue until it suddenly moved.

This is the first time I've seen avalanche sheds for car roads. I saw them for the railroad near Glacier National Park in Montana. They are designed to allow the avalanche to come roaring down the mountain without burying the road and the cars driving on it.

I got out of the mountains and into a dry plains area that reminded me of Big Bend with some of the same plants.

I kept driving and Marty gave me an idea of where I needed to camp. He said there were some free campgrounds after I went through Lilloouet and I got to one just before dark. I had one neighbor whose name was Chuck. He was a nice guy and we seemed to have some things in common so we chatted for awhile before time for bed. It was a long day but this is a beautiful area.

This is right next to the campsite.
