Banff Alberta, Canadian Rockies resort town

I reluctantly left Glacier National Park and drove to what promised to be one of the most spectacular places in north America. It was something else and by that I mean it was something other than I expected. The mountains surrounding Banff were steep and beautiful and there was much to like about it but it was a resort town similar to Vail with lots of expensive stores of every flavor. The wealthy people walked around in a well dressed manner but many seemed rushed and unhappy. The rain was threatening every day and there was promise of more in the coming days.

On the way to the Canadian border.

Driving through Kootenay National Park in BC on the way to Banff.

When I finally arrived in Banff it was chilly and bright. The mountains tower over the town and I can easily imagine what it is like during the ski season.

The lake on the way to the campground. The water was clear and beautiful, as is common up here.
On the second day, I tried to take a bike ride but as soon as I got dressed and started the ride the rain started threatening and as soon as I got back to my camp, the skies opened up and even dropped some hail. With the promise of more rain in the future I decided to move on north where the chances were less and there was new promise of unspoiled beauty.
